Jancis selects 'Auntsfield Long Cow 2005 Sauvignon Blanc' as one of the FT's best 50 white wines for Christmas
Jancis Robinson MW, the UK's most respected wine writer, selects 'Auntsfield Long Cow 2005 Sauvignon Blanc' as one of the Financial Times' best 50 white wines for Christmas: "Much more density and personality than most. Attractively smooth texture"
/Grocery News Articles/ - FROME, UK, November 27, 2006 - The choice of the Auntsfield Long Cow 2005 Sauvignon Blanc as one of the UK's best for Christmas is a great tribute to the vision of the original pioneers who chose a unique site in Marlborough to plant the first vineyard in 1873.
Auntsfield is where Marlborough's winemaking industry began. The first vineyard and winery was established on the Auntsfield property in 1873. Highly regarded wine was produced for some 50 years. Auntsfield has been re-established by the Cowley family, well known in the film industry.
The fruit for the Long Cow 2005 Sauvignon Blanc was grown near the original 'Long Cow Paddock', land that in the colonial times nurtured the Auntsfield house-cow.
The wine won a Gold Medal against 9000 other wines at this year's London International Wine Challenge. It has gained a strong following in the UK for its remarkable fruit concentration, texture and balance. It has also gained a listing at the Dorchester Hotel's prestigious China Tang restaurant by the glass, along with the other Auntsfield wines.
This selection by Jancis Robinson along with Steven Spurrier's endorsement of the Auntsfield 2005 Hawk Hill Pinot Noir as his pick of 'Best New World Red' in the May 2006 issue of Decanter Magazine is confirmation of the exciting renaissance of this historic vineyard.
